Recital by the young Bavarian prodigee Veronika Eberle, next Monday, March 8, at Montreal's Place des Arts

"Veronika Eberle is one of the most extravagantly gifted young musicians that I have ever heard. It is possible that she should become one of Europe’s most important artists…" (Sir Simon Rattle)

Montreal – Veronika Eberle and her brilliant accompanist Oliver Schnyder will be among the highlights of Pro Musica’s string of three exceptional young violinists. On Monday, 8 March 2010, at 7:30 p.m, in an intimate and spontaneous dialogue with Oliver Schnyder, Eberle will give us the rare privilege to listen to her performance of sonatas by Schubert, Debussy and Schumann. Twenty-one year-old Veronika Eberle has established a reputation as one of the most promising violin talents to emerge from Germany in recent years.

Endowed with a tremendous technical ability, and undaunted to embark upon ambitious repertoire, Eberle never fails to realize the emotional and stylistic demands of music. There is a perfection to her sound which never wavers. Her tone is warm, invariably lucid and resonant, and she possesses an admirable ability to adapt it to the character and style of the composition. Her performances are of sensitivity, delicacy and articulate clarity, providing some intense emotional moments as well as giving the work a real sense of drama. She plays with explosive verve, intensity, interpretive boldness and contagious joy.

At twenty-one, Veronika Eberle is already a seasoned prodigy. She has appeared with some of Europe’s finest orchestras. Highlights among future concerto appearances include debuts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Mozarteum Salzburg (Mozartwoche), Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, as well as return engagements with the NHK Symphony Tokyo, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart and NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg. 2008/09 included prestigious recital debuts in New York (Carnegie Hall), Paris (Théâtre de la Ville), and Salzburg (Mozarteum), as well as a highly successful summer residency at the Marlboro Festival in the USA. Future recital appearances include debuts in London (Wigmore Hall), Frankfurt (Alte Oper), the Lucern Festival, and on tour in Italy and Spain. BBC recently announced that Veronika will be a BBC New Generation Artist in 2010/11 and 2011/12.

Veronika Eberle was born in 1988 in Donauwörth, Southern Germany, where she started violin lessons at the age of six. She later joined the Hochschule in Munich, where she is currently studying with Ana Chumachenco. Her exceptional talent, the poise and maturity of her musicianship have been recognized by conductors, orchestras and festivals around Europe. She gave her concerto debut at the age of 10 and since then has appeared with some of the world's finest orchestras. Her introduction by Sir Simon Rattle to a packed Festpielhaus at the 2006 Salzburg Easter Festival, in a performance of the Beethoven concerto with the Berliner Philharmoniker, spurred her international career. She received a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2008. Veronika Eberle plays the "Dragonetti" Stradivarius (1700), on generous loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.

A fine chamber musician, she counts Lars Vogt, Christian Tetzlaff, and Julia Fischer among her chamber music partners. Embodying the idea that performing chamber music is a 'concerted' art, she shares this philosophy with her Swiss accompanist.
