    The Minister of Science, Wolfgang Heubisch, and Minister of Economic Affairs, Martin Zeil, have underscored in Garching the importance of the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities to the research and business location of Bavaria. “Besides its indispensable role as a supercomputing centre for the whole of the Munich region, the Leibniz centre operates a high-performance computer of world-class standard.     42 Bavarian Projects picked by Innovation Initiative ‘365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas’

    42 Bavarian projects convinced the jury of the nationwide innovation initiative ‘365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas’ and have been nominated as ‘Selected landmarks for 2009’. They are being announced today in Berlin. Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Martin Zeil, underlined: “It is fantastic that such a large number of “Selected landmarks” are once again coming from Bavaria in 2009. The State of Bavaria has again managed to convince the jury with its creativity and innovative strength in a wide variety of sectors.     Bavaria has vital interest in successful foreign policy

    As the Number 1 export state in Germany, Bavaria has a vital interest of its own in pursuing a successful foreign policy. Minister-President Dr. Günther Beckstein stressed this yesterday and also underscored Bavaria’s self-confident role as a player in a globalized world. “One in every two euros in Bavarian industry is earned in world trade. That creates growth, jobs and opportunities in the State. We are therefore consistently developing our foreign relations with the leading global growth regions, including those beyond Europe’s borders. This ensures strong incentives for industry and boosts prosperity”, Beckstein underlined at the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Gesellschaft für Außenpolitik (Foreign Affairs Association) in Munich. Bavaria cooperates with strong regions, like Quebec, California, Shandong, Guangdong, Karnataka, Bangalore, Sao Paulo and Western Cape Province. In addition, the State also maintains 20 foreign representations and will be opening another one in Israel on January 1, 2009.     Geothermal energy is still on a growth curve in Bavaria: the Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs, Emilia Müller, visited the kick-off event for the first independent geothermal energy project of E.ON Bayern Wärme GmbH in Poing today. “The development of geothermal resources in Bavaria is gaining increasing momentum.     Bavaria in the top league for start-ups in the high-tech sector / Munich and Nuremberg Metropolitan Regions get top places in the new ZEW Study

    Further confirmation of Bavaria’s appeal as a high-tech location: According to a study currently being conducted by the Center for European Economic Research (Zentrum für europäische Wirtschaftsforschung = ZEW) in Mannheim, the Munich region undisputedly ranks in the top league for high-tech start-ups, especially in the sectors of industry and services as well as information and communications technologies.     Intermediate review of the Bavarian Cluster Initiative confirms successful record

    Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Martin Zeil, is delighted at the positive results of the study conducted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research on the Cluster Initiative in Bavaria: “The study confirms that the clusters are encouraging small and medium-sized companies, in particular, to work more closely with research institutions. Otherwise, such enterprises would find it difficult to gain access to research and development. With the Cluster Initiative we are seeing more cooperation projects”, Zeil said.     Bavaria is consistently pursuing its successful technology policy: At an international innovation congress held at BMW Welt in Munich, the State Government yesterday presented its future strategy for Bavarian technology policy in the State of Bavaria. The key theme addressed by the Congress was the new program ‘Bayern FIT – Forschung, Innovation, Technologie’ (Research, Innovation, Technology). “With Bavaria FIT we will continue to enhance Bavaria’s role as a center for research and technology.     Bavaria’s Economics Minister Müller on the export trend in the first quarter of 2008

    “Bavarian industry is braving the risks of the global economy. Up to now, our companies have coped well with the impact of the euro, oil prices and turbulence in the financial markets”, commented Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Emilia Müller, referring to the latest foreign trade figures for the first quarter of 2008. They show that in the first three months of this year, Bavarian exports were 3.9 % up on 2007 at euro 39.4 billion. Industry’s export share rose to 50.6 %. Imports increased by 6.8 % to euro 32.1 billion in the first quarter. The export surplus therefore came to euro 7.3 billion. » Full text

    Cirrus Airlines moves company headquarters to Munich

    The German airline company Cirrus Airlines has moved into its new offices at Munich Airport, so that in future 150 employees of Cirrus Airlines’ central administration will be working in Bavaria.
