Martin Zeil, Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, commented on the Bavarian foreign trade figures for the first quarter 2010 as follows: “During the first three months of this year, the Bavarian export sector recovered from the heavy setbacks of 2009. All in all, exports are well above the level of the previous year.” Exports were thus proving to be the driving force behind the cyclical trend, so the Minister. The Free State is profiting on a greater-than-average scale from a global economy that is growing once again, mainly in the BRIC countries and other fast-developing nations. » Full text

Handing over grants amounting to a total of approximately € 24 million to the German Aerospace Center – Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) – and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (FhG) in Augsburg, Martin Zeil, Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, said: “ I am pleased that Augsburg has become a location for the renowned Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the German Aerospace Center. Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, May 17 2010 – Mr. Clément Gignac, minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Exportation, and Ms. Nicole Ménard, minister for Tourism and in charge of Montérégie region, together announced the opening of a Dornier seaplane assembly plant in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu. The government is supporting this $71.5 million project with a refundable contribution of $35 million. On March 2nd, 2010, the Bavarian High-tech Electronics cluster located in Nuremberg received the award 'Competence Network 2010' on German federal scale. Bavarian State Secretary of Economics Katja Hessel: "I congratulate the Bavarian High-tech Electronics cluster upon receiving this award. This demonstrates the excellency of Bavarian clusters even on a federal level and illustrates that Metropolitan Nuremberg is one of the best high-tech locations of Germany." On the 20th of July, at the Farnborough International Air show, Liebherr announced that as of spring 2011, they will build an assembly plant for landing gears and a logistics center in Laval. Liebherr-Aerospace Canada, located near Autoroute Chomedey, was given the mandate by Bombardier to assemble and test the landing gears for the C-Series, the first flight of which is scheduled in October 2013. All equipment will be shipped in pieces from Lindenberg, Bavaria, where Liebherr-Aerospace designs them. » Full text

From February 18th to 21st 2010, Bavaria's minister-president Horst Seehofer and his wife Karin Seehofer will be travelling to Montreal and to the Olympic Games of 2010 in Vancouver. Seehofer plans to attend several competitions during his two-day stay in Vancouver, but above all he is going to meet with high representatives of the Olympic movement, of the Canadian Olympic candidature and organisational team, as well as with numerous German sporting stars and officers. His goal will be to present Bavaria as an ideal location for major sporting events and to promote Munich as Olympic city for the Games of 2018. As Seehofer put it: "The successful candidature of Munich as Olympic city for the Games of 2018 is of key importance for the whole province of Bavaria. We will do everything possible to host the Olympic Games in Munich for a second time and thus to realize this unique opportunity. Süd-Chemie AG, a worldwide leading specialty chemical company based in Munich/Germany, is investing approximately EUR 60 million in the production of lithium iron phosphate (LFP), a high performance energy storage material used in batteries for electric vehicle drives and other applications. On the new site of its wholly-owned Canadian subsidiary, Phostech Lithium Inc. in Candiac/Quebec, the German group is constructing the first industrial production plant for LFP using a new, proprietary production process based-on wet chemistry. MUNICH -- The Bavarian minister of Economics Martin Zeil met with the First Vice President of the National Assembly of Québec, Fatima Houda-Pepin, on Feb. 24 in the Landtag (Bavarian parliament). Houda-Pepin is visiting Bavaria from February 22 to 26 with a delegation of ten to further explore the cooperation between Bavaria and Québec. Zeil: "Bavaria traditionally maintains very close political and economical relations with Canada, especially with our partner region Québec.
