Royal Wedding of Landshut

Somptuously dressed noble ladies, heralds on their steeds, arbelists and musicians, a noble bridal couple as well as the Emperor, but also miserable beggars and gaudy jesters – all these characters are part of the “Landshuter Hochzeit”, the prince's wedding in Landshut.
The celebration, Europe's widest costume show, takes place once every 4 years with the help of innumerable amateurs. It reproduces the 1475 wedding celebrations where Georg, prince of Landshut, married Hedwig, the daughter of the Polish king. This political marriage was supposed to seal the two reigning houses' alliance: Poland's Jagiellons and Bavaria's Wittelsbachs.
