Bavarian aerospace giant Liebherr to construct an assembly plant for landing gears in Laval, near Montreal

On the 20th of July, at the Farnborough International Air show, Liebherr announced that as of spring 2011, they will build an assembly plant for landing gears and a logistics center in Laval. Liebherr-Aerospace Canada, located near Autoroute Chomedey, was given the mandate by Bombardier to assemble and test the landing gears for the C-Series, the first flight of which is scheduled in October 2013. All equipment will be shipped in pieces from Lindenberg, Bavaria, where Liebherr-Aerospace designs them. » Full text

Süd-Chemie invests EUR 60 million in Quebec in series production of the battery material lithium iron phosphate for electric vehicle drives

Süd-Chemie AG, a worldwide leading specialty chemical company based in Munich/Germany, is investing approximately EUR 60 million in the production of lithium iron phosphate (LFP), a high performance energy storage material used in batteries for electric vehicle drives and other applications. On the new site of its wholly-owned Canadian subsidiary, Phostech Lithium Inc. in Candiac/Quebec, the German group is constructing the first industrial production plant for LFP using a new, proprietary production process based-on wet chemistry. By using this process, high grade LFP can be produced in both stable and consistent quality. » Full text

Martin Zeil, Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, hands over grants to the German Aerospace Center and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in Augsburg

Handing over grants amounting to a total of approximately € 24 million to the German Aerospace Center – Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) – and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (FhG) in Augsburg, Martin Zeil, Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, said: “ I am pleased that Augsburg has become a location for the renowned Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the German Aerospace Center. This strengthens Swabia’s excellent research infrastructure even further.” » Full text
